Survive and Thrive Course for Campania and Serenita Residents
Campania and Serenita ARBD Homes start a Survive and Thrive Course from Community Learning West…
Nicky Tweedle, Activities Coordinator at Serenita, asked Community Learning West – based at North Somerset Council – if they would be able to provide a course to improve understanding of food hygiene for our ARBD residents. Community Learning is funded nationally by the Skills Funding Agency to engage people who would like to improve skills and confidence for work, health and well being and quality of life. They strive to develop partnerships with local service providers to engage participants. They have a focus on community learning, particularly for those with mental health problems and/or learning difficulties.
The tutor, Anne Bunn and Julie Evans, Community Learning Development Worker, met with Nicky Tweedle and Sarah, Senior Support Worker at Serenita to get an idea of what content would be beneficial; they also met with the residents to fully identify their needs and they were able to specifically tailor a course that covers the following: Staying safe in the kitchen and home, improving communication skills; enjoying your leisure time, making plans for the future, building self esteem to help live independently.
Ten of our ARBD residents have enrolled on the Survive and Thrive Course that will run for 5 sessions. The first one is due to start on Friday 17th April for 2 hours in the afternoon.
We will be following their progress, so come back for updates on the course.
