Serenita ARBD Care Home share their exciting upcoming events…
Serenita had a visit from North Somerset councils ”Go4Life” scheme, and are really pleased to have qualified for the healthy living ‘cheque book” …which entitles each resident to 20 free sessions or classes all over Weston at gyms, sport centres and health clubs.
The sessions on offer range from badminton to tai chi. Sequenced dancing to squash!
The scheme also comes with an experienced health advisor who will visit the home twice per week, to offer stop smoking packages/ healthy cooking workshops / weight loss programmes and ‘Go4Life’ health diaries.
SO…..watch this space for their progress. ” we all know how important it is to look after our health when we are in recovery, so to have the professional support of the health trainer will really go a long way to get residents motivated” [Nicky Tweedle, Activities Coordinator]
Our residents will be joining a new community cycling project, IN2GEAR, which offers a range of bikes and trikes for mixed ability cycle sessions.
There are electric bikes, tandems, mountain bikes, disability trikes. The sessions are for 2 hours, and during colder months are held in an indoor Sports Hall.
During warmer months… depending on ability and assessment, some residents will be enjoying half day trips around the South West, with the bikes in a trailer. They can then visit beauty spots to cycle and picnic as a group.
The project has specialist support workers to assess and assist throughout.
“We already have more residents signing up, than we have space for. So we will be working on a rota system to make sure everyone gets a chance to join this amazing activity.” [Nicky Tweedle]
